Royal Festival Hall

Inspired by the building 'Royal Festival Hall, located in SouthBank Centre, London, I created a typeface using the software Glyphs. Despite doing intricate primary research of the exterior and interior architectures of the building, local archives and history, I still wasn’t able to form any designs.

After undergoing a tour of the theatres, I was intrigued by the structure and interior of the theatres, therefore, began identifying and formatting the shapes. Researching online, I eventually came across seating plans of theatres which inspired to create the overall font. I used the shapes of each seat from the seating plan to create puzzle pieces as a structure for my typeface.

I formatted a zine consisting of the typeface and photographs taken by myself.
