Skin & Bones
Following the brief of creating an item of clothing with a graphic design methodology, I decided to create a two-piece garment inspired by skin and bones. I wanted to produce an outcome that didn’t reflect the two elements at first glance. Inspired by the microscopic imagery of skin cells and bones, I experimented with the shapes and patterns to incorporate them into my designs.
Inspired by the Carl Krull and his seismic approach, I embodied ‘the flow of pattern’ and simplicity into my designs. I created a one-off piece which highlighted the two elements in different pieces, the top represented skin, and the trousers reflected bones.
To add a hint of graphic design, I reflected upon Christian Dior's runaway of mixing casual with couture where I incorporated the theme 'Skin and Bones' as a print to create a contrast with the over the top neckline of ruffles. Maintaining the concept of ruffles, I added a hint of the style on the bottom ends of the trousers and the laces of the trainers.
